What is skills to advance?

Skills to Advance is a national initiative that provides  subsidised upskilling and reskilling opportunities to employees in jobs undergoing change and to those currently employed in vulnerable sectors.

Skills to Advance aims to equip employees with the skills they need to progress in their current role or to adapt to the changing job market, funded by SOLAS delivered by the Education and Training Boards. There are different routes to engage – as an individual, as a  Small to Medium Enterprise (SME)  or as part of a Regional Initiative. 2022 Programmes

Environmental Awareness and Sustainability

Boost your awareness of sustainable practices and make positive changes in your home and at work, by enrolling in our Level 4 or Level 5 QQI accredited courses
These programmes will help you to develop an awareness of the impact of environmental change and the key sustainable practices that can be implemented by an individual or a business, to make a contribution that can help the protect our planet.
The courses are ideal for individuals who want to make a difference in their personal lives through the conservation of resources and reduction of their carbon footprint.
For organisations that wish to have an informed and engaged work force, the Level 5 course examines the key sustainability issues affecting your work environment and enables you to implement environmentally sustainable improvements in your workplace. Project work involves the compilation of an environmental improvement plan for your workplace.
Courses are run online, one half-day per week for 5 weeks.</p>Delivery can be provided for groups from single organisations and can be scheduled, according to your requirements.

Supervisory Management (6N4329)

This QQI Level 6 programme will equip you with the knowledge, skill, and competence to lead and supervise teams effectively.  You will be able to analyse situations and make decisions independently or in a management capacity in a range of sectors.

Progression/Employment Opportunities
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a QQI Level 6 minor award 6N4329. It will provide you with a skill set to lead and manage teams, and as a component of the larger major QQI Management Award 6M4587 will allow for progression to further study.

Employment Law

This QQI Level 6 programme (6N4322) is designed to enable the learner to gain an in depth understanding of the Legislative Environment in which a modern business must survive. Learners will be aware of and be able to apply the Legislation that applies to their particular area of business.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a QQI Level 6 minor award 6N4322. It will provide you with a skill set to apply the Legislation and understand the Legislative Environment in which businesses operate today.

Human Resource Management

This QQI Level 6 (6N3750) programme is designed to provide the learner with an understanding of human resource management and to equip them with the knowledge, skill, and competence in human resource management principles.

Digital Marketing (5N1364)

This QQI Level 5 (5N1364) is designed to introduce the learner to the core competencies and skills required to develop and execute digital marketing strategies and activities using a range of e-tools within a variety of digital marketing contexts.

Training Needs Identification and Design

This QQI Level 6 (6N3325) programme is designed to enable the learner to develop an understanding of the methodologies and processes available to approach Training Needs Identification and Design. The learner will be equipped to identify training and development needs within their organisation and in how to design, plan and implement a training schedule.

Training Delivery and Evaluation

This QQI Level 6 (6N3326) is designed to enable learners to develop an understanding of the methodologies and processes available to approach Training Delivery and Evaluation. This will be achieved by equipping the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in Training Delivery and Evaluation through planning, design, delivery, assessment and evaluation.

Specifically the programme covers the concepts and theories of delivery and evaluation and the understanding of how this is applied to ensure the effectiveness of a training session. Learners will explore the legislation associated with ensuring equality and fairness for all trainees regardless of their ethnic background or disability and will also examine the provision of constructive feedback to participants.

We will also take a look at evaluation models, approaches, techniques and tools as well as a range of training aids and will explore how to approach the provision of constructive feedback to participants as well as specialised training delivery and evaluation skills. Finally we will review the training evaluation process.

Care Skills

This QQI Level 5 programme (5N2770) is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment in a wide range of healthcare settings. It’s intended for those who are already working in a healthcare environment and those who are interested in improving their formal qualifications.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a QQI Level 5 minor award 5N2770 and you will be equipped with the knowledge, competence, and skill to support clients in need of health care and to respond with varying levels of assistance to the needs of individual clients.

Health and Safety at Work

This QQI Level 5 programme (5N1794) is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence to promote and maintain safety and health in a work environment.

Progression/Employment Opportunities
On successful completion of the course, the learner will receive a QQI Level 5 minor award in Health and Safety at Work (5N1794). The learner will understand the responsibilities and duties of the employer and employee regarding health and safety and will be enabled to identify hazards and carry out risk assessments. The learner will also have developed a familiarity with the relevant national legislation and statutory bodies.

International Award in Barista Skills

This International Award in Barista Skills will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence to understand the full range of products used in making beverages, understand the origin of products and the methods and procedures used to process them into the final drink.

On successful completion of this course learners will be able to demonstrate product knowledge, clean and check equipment, display drink building techniques and serve customers. The learner will also understand the importance of product care in producing an excellent beverage.

Word Processing & Spreadsheets

Organising and analysing data using a spreadsheet application produces useful insights for all types of organisation. In addition to using standard formulas and functions, this module covers visualisation of data through creating and formatting graphs or charts.

Introduction to Programming using Python

Have you been thinking about learning to programme? Are you interested in a career in programming?

2D CAD

Computer-aided design (CAD) is used extensively in a wide range of industries. CAD skills are in demand in digital sectors, although with CAD applications even non-technical professionals can create complex 2D designs and concepts.

The 2D Design module covers the main concepts and skills needed to create two-dimensional drawings, change object properties, and print or plot outputs.

This module is suitable for students and working professionals in fields related to the architectural, engineering, and construction sectors. It would also be of value to designers in areas such as product development, gaming, and technology.

ILM Level 4 Qualification in Leadership & Management

This Level 4 Certificate Award in Leadership and Management is designed for new and aspiring middle managers. These qualifications help learners to really get to grips with their role, gain comprehensive business knowledge, and develop the technical skills they need to lead effectively.

There are a choice of 29 modules, approximately 6 which have to be taken for the Certificate programme.

The course runs part-time to facilitate working learners.

Running on one day per week for four hours over 16 weeks.

Exams are assignment based.
