Westside Hospitality Centre
This centre commenced operation in 2019. It is the first FET centre accommodating both Training and Further Education (Post Leaving Certificate) provision. The centre’s primary focus is on FET provision for the Hospitality sector from kitchen, restaurant, bar, accommodation, reception, and barista and training programmes run by Bishopstown Campus in the building include a National Commis Chef Apprenticeship Programme, a National Craft Butchery Apprenticeship Programme (planned to start in 2021), Food and Beverage Service Skills Traineeship, as well as a Culinary Arts Traineeship.
Some of this training is delivered by Bishopstown Campus staff, and some by designated approved contractors. Several programmes at the centre are run for those in employment in the hospitality sector under the SOLAS Funded Skills to Advance initiative for those currently working to up-skill and gain internationally recognized qualifications. Morrison’s Island Campus runs the Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses in the building.
Hospitality training also happens outside of the Westside Hospitality Centre within the Community Training Centres (CTCs) locations and specialist training providers. There is a demand for training in this sector and a need to ensure suitably qualified staff are available to meet current and future sector needs.
