About the Green-Campus programme:
The Green-Campus Programme encourages a partnership approach to environmental education, management, and action. The programme primarily aims to ensure that members of a campus community can engage in a meaningful way to enhance sustainability on campus.
We currently have:
- A Green-Campus Committee.
- Undertaken environmental reviews
- Implemented action plans across different themes
Litter & Waste:
Under the theme of Litter and Waste, Bishopstown Campus will:
- Reduce litter and reduce the waste generated in the campus.
- Reduce waste going to landfill by diverting more waste to recycling.
- Highlight that recycling is not the best solution to waste management and to encourage a Zero Waste approach to our daily lives which is rooted in Permaculture principles that have existed since the 1970’s and on the course which has been taught here since 2001.
- Eliminate all single-use cups in its operations throughout the campus.
- Generate charitable donations through the ‘Re-Use’ scheme for charities in need of support.
Energy:
Under the theme of Energy, Bishopstown Campus will:
- Build awareness around the environmental impact of energy-use and carbon.
- Optimise the use of campus buildings.
- Reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels.
- Reduce our overall energy costs by reducing energy consumption.
Biodiversity:
Under the theme of Biodiversity, Bishopstown Campus will:
- Build awareness around the value of protecting biodiversity and the natural world.
- Boost the diversity of native plant and animal life through conservation.
- Develop understanding of environmental and natural resource management.
- Constantly review land-use and landscaping practices in favour of protecting biodiversity.
